1. Find the right cap

    The windshield and spray symbol

It's often a blue or white cap. Never pour washer fluid into the coolant tank.

  2. Winter switch

Run it low, then fill with de-icer

So summer fluid doesn't freeze in the lines on the first cold night.

  3. Weak spray

    A pin, very gently

If a nozzle sputters, clear it with a pin and aim it back at the glass.

Steps

  2. 2Find the washer fluid reservoir. Its cap has a windshield and spray symbol and is often blue. Don't mix it up with the coolant or brake fluid caps.
  3. 3Pour in the washer fluid with a funnel until it reaches the fill line or the neck.
  4. 4Close the cap, wipe up any spills and shut the hood. Test the sprayers from the driver's seat.
  • Freeze rating

The label shows the coldest temperature it can handle. Where winters are cold, choose one rated well below zero.

  • The right season

All-season works most of the year. De-icer is for winter, bug remover for summer.

  • Ready to use

Most jugs are ready to pour. Concentrates need mixing first, so read the label.
