1. Water test

    Sprinkle water on the hood

Tight beads mean it's protected. Flat sheets mean it's time to wax.

  2. Thin is better

    A few drops per section

A thin coat buffs off easily. A thick one just wastes wax.

  3. Quick shine

Spray wax + a dry microfiber

After a wash, mist one panel at a time and buff.

Wax your car by hand

Steps

  1. 1Start with a freshly washed, completely dry car, parked in the shade with the paint cool.
  2. 2Put a little wax on the applicator and spread it thinly over one section at a time.
  3. 3Let it dry to a light haze, as long as the label says. Swipe a finger across it: if it's clear underneath, it's ready.
  4. 4Buff it off with a clean microfiber towel, turning to a fresh side often. Keep wax off black plastic trim.
  • Carnauba or synthetic

Carnauba gives a warm, deep shine. Synthetic sealants last longer. Some blend the two.

  • Paste, liquid or spray

Paste lasts longest but takes more work. Liquid is easier. Spray is for quick top-ups.

  • Wax isn't a cleaner

Wax protects, it doesn't scrub. Wash and dry the car first, or you'll rub dirt into the paint.
