1. Two buckets

    One soapy, one clean water

Rinse the mitt in clean water before every dip, so the dirt stays out of the soap.

  2. Top down

    Roof first, wheels last

The dirtiest parts go last, with their own mitt.

  3. No spots

    Dry with a microfiber towel

Lay it flat and draw it toward you. Don't let the car dry in the sun.

Steps

  1. 1Park in the shade with the paint cool. Fill one bucket with water and car soap as the label says, and the other with clean water.
  2. 2Rinse the whole car with the hose to loosen the dirt.
  3. 3Wash from the roof down, one panel at a time, rinsing the mitt in the clean bucket before each dip in the soap. Do the wheels last.
  4. 4Rinse off all the soap, then dry straight away with the microfiber towel so no water spots form.
  • pH neutral

Gentle on wax and sealants, so the protection on your paint lasts longer.

  • How much to mix

Most car soaps are mixed with water in a bucket. The label says how much, and it's usually very little.

  • Wash and wax

Some soaps add a little wax for shine. Handy, but not a replacement for a proper wax.
