Mist your plants right

5 minutesMost morningsEasy

Steps

  1. 1Fill the mister with room-temperature water. Filtered water or rainwater is kinder to fussy plants.
  2. 2In the morning, hold the mister about a foot away and let a fine cloud settle over the leaves, tops and undersides.
  3. 3Skip succulents, cacti and plants with fuzzy leaves, like African violets. They prefer to stay dry.
  4. 4Let the leaves dry by evening. For a longer boost, stand pots on a pebble tray or group them together.
  • A fine mist

Look for a mister that makes a soft cloud, not drops. Big drops sit on leaves and can leave spots.

  • Who likes it

Ferns, calatheas and air plants love humidity. Succulents, cacti and fuzzy leaves would rather stay dry.

  • Room temperature

Cold water can shock tropical leaves. Keep the mister filled, so it's always at room temperature.
