    About a shot glass full

That's roughly what an adult needs to cover everything. Rub it in well.

  2. Reapply

Every 2 hours, and after swimming

Or as the label says. Set an alarm on your phone at the beach.

  3. Sprays

    Spray, then rub it in

Never spray straight at your face. Spray into your hands and smooth it on.

Steps

  1. 1Put it on about 15 minutes before you go out, on dry skin.
  2. 2Use more than you think: about a shot glass full covers an adult's body. Rub it in well.
  3. 3Don't miss your ears, the back of your neck, the tops of your feet and your lips.
  4. 4Reapply at least every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating or towel drying, or as the label says.
  • Broad spectrum, SPF 30+

Broad spectrum covers UVA and UVB. SPF measures UVB. Dermatologists suggest SPF 30 or higher.

  • Water resistant, 40 or 80

Water resistant means it holds up for 40 or 80 minutes in water. Reapply after that, and after towel drying.

  • Mineral or chemical

Mineral sunscreens sit on the skin; chemical ones soak in. Both work, so pick the one you like wearing.
