Wash your hair right

Steps

  1. 1Wet your hair all the way through with warm water. It takes longer than you think.
  2. 2Work a coin-sized amount of shampoo into your scalp with your fingertips, not your nails. The suds clean the lengths as you rinse.
  3. 3Rinse well, then smooth conditioner from the middle of your hair to the ends and comb it through with a wide-tooth comb.
  4. 4Leave it for a couple of minutes, rinse with cooler water, and squeeze your hair dry in a towel instead of rubbing.
  • Start with your scalp

Oily scalp: a lighter or clarifying formula. Dry scalp or hair: a moisturizing one. Shampoo is for the scalp, so start there.

  • Sulfates or not

Sulfates make big suds and clean hard. Sulfate-free formulas are gentler and help hair color last longer.

  • Color-safe and curly

If your hair is colored or curly, look for those words on the label. Those formulas are made to be gentler.
